According to the requirements of the notice of the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas on the implementation of the high seas autonomous fishing ban measures in 2021, China has officially implemented the high seas autonomous fishing ban measures in some high seas of the southwest Atlantic Ocean and the East Pacific Ocean since this year. During the period of independent fishing suspension, all Chinese squid fishing vessels should stop fishing to conserve squid resources on the high seas.

According to reports, the waters and time for the implementation of the high seas independent fishing ban are as follows: from July 1 to September 30, at 32 ° S—44 ° S、48 ° W—60 ° W, the high seas of the southwest Atlantic outside the exclusive economic zone of the countries concerned; From September 1 to November 30, in May ° N—5 ° S、110 ° W—95 ° W between the East Pacific high seas.

The implementation of the high seas independent fishing ban is an innovative measure for fisheries management in some high seas areas that have not yet been managed by international organizations. In 2020, China will try out the high seas independent fishing ban in the key fishing grounds of China's deep-sea fishing vessels such as the southwest Atlantic and the East Pacific. More than 600 deep-sea fishing vessels and auxiliary vessels belonging to more than 70 deep-sea fishing enterprises within the fishing ban will be withdrawn according to the regulations, and no illegal fishing activities will occur in the fishing ban area. According to experts organized by China Ocean Fisheries Association and Shanghai Ocean University to analyze and demonstrate the effect of the fishing ban in 2020, in the high seas of the southwest Atlantic and the East Pacific, the cumulative output of squid from January to April in 2021 has increased year-on-year, the resource situation has improved, and the effect of the fishing ban has initially appeared.
